The Research
Malaysia consists of multiple ethnics or races who live together in one country. Despite sharing the same land, each ethnic has their own culture which is inherited from their own ancestors’ tradition and religions. For so many years, these diversities have been argued as the main criteria that make Malaysian unique. This however do not come without any drawbacks. The racial divide still exists through various education systems and political system which remain racial based. The advent of today’s technology has also further intensified the gap between various ethnics. For example, the social media has been use to spread provocation, fake news, insensitive comments or remarks and so forth. The rise in racial tension and issues in the recent years have raised the question on how harmonious is the relationship between the multi-ethnic and multi-cultural citizens in Malaysia? Thus, the research aims to establish an index known as Malaysian Harmony Index based on national identity, culture and inter-religious norms to unite Malaysians where similarities are strengthened and differences are tolerated.
